A typhoon category 4 passed by today. It pretty much damaged all trees in our garden. Fortunately our house is solid and I hope others were as fortunate as we were. Here are some pictures from our place.

I like taking photos and I like new stuff. So I had to try out HDR, High Dynamic Range Imaging using Photomatix.
My first tries can be seen on pbase.

Canon 30D released

Canon has released the Canon Eos 30D. It has the same sensor as the Canon Eos 20D but has a longer lasting shutter, larger lcd and bigger buffer.
Even more impressive is the new Canon 85 1.2L USM (II). It is not only the best Canon lens, it is also very good-looking.

Bought some new Canon lenses

I recently bought the Canon 17-40 mm and 85mm 1.8. The cheaper 85mm is really great considering the cost, around 370 dollar. This is one of my favorite pictures ever.

The picture is taken with a Canon 10D and a Canon EF 85mm 1.8 in southern Mindanao, Philippines.

Nikon stops selling most film cameras

Nikon announced yesterday that they will only continue to sell two film cameras the F6 and FM10.
On the other hand, they are selling far too many different digital cameras with similar features as are most other manufacturers.

Canon 5D review and forum comments

The best digital photo resource, dpreview.com, has released the highly anticipated review of the Canon EOS 5D. The review is extremely ambtious and extensive.
In short, the review is very favorable. The 5D offers almost the same image quality as the 1Ds MKII. The 5D has a smaller buffer and is not weather sealed.
