DVD is truly a failed media format. And I am not talking about DRM.

No, it is so prone to scratching that is ridiculous. My kids do not handle them kindly and about 10 percent of all DVD are dead within a couple of months.

HD-DVD will be worse. It is as susceptible to scratches but stores more data. Blu-ray has the same problem but apparently Blu-ray discs will use a special coating called Durabis. Let us hope this is true, I have not been able to verify it. And let us hope that either Blu-ray wins the media format war or that HD-DVD is forced to adopt the same coating.
