Canon 5D review and forum comments

The best digital photo resource, dpreview.com, has released the highly anticipated review of the Canon EOS 5D. The review is extremely ambtious and extensive.

In short, the review is very favorable. The 5D offers almost the same image quality as the 1Ds MKII. The 5D has a smaller buffer and is not weather sealed.

There does not seem to be same auto focusing issues that affected the 10D and 20D.

There are a couple discussions reappear in the 5D forums:

  • Is a full frame sensor really better than FOV crop
  • The Nikon D200 seems to be more robust than the 5D at a lower price
  • The 5D with its full frame sensor needs lenses that are too expensive and quality gain over the 20D with cheaper lenses is not justified
