I have to admit that I have been completely ignorant about digg.com until larsinio dugg my google map hack.
I must say digg.com is so simple, yet clever and useful for finding interesting stuff on the internet. It is a true people choice of the internet.

There have been rumors about Google will start offering Instant Messaging as part of their Google Desktop 2. On the neowin.net board there is some speculation that Google will use a open source protocol called Jabber. Users of standards based IM clients have been trying to connect to talk.google.com and are recieving appropriate responses.

Google released Google Deskop 2 aka Google Sidebar late on August 22. The new version includes a bar with small customizable information windows displaying photos, news or custom information. There are developer tools for download. Oddly enough there is no built-in support for rss feeds.
There are plenty of plugins to download.
